David S. Kottler began practicing law in 1993 following his graduation cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law. He graduated in the top 6 percent of his class, having achieved several honors and distinctions, including the American Jurisprudence Award and a merit/achievement scholarship.
Following law school, Mr. Kottler clerked for Chief Justice Michael D. Zimmerman at the Utah Supreme Court. He was then hired as a Deputy County Attorney at the Weber County Prosecutor’s Office, where he prosecuted felonies and misdemeanors. Following his work as a prosecutor, Mr. Kottler was hired as a trial specialist by the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association. Mr. Kottler’s private litigation practice began in 2000 and has evolved into its present form focusing exclusively on ski accidents, motor vehicle accidents and personal injury law.
David S. Kottler founded Summit Injury Law as the only dedicated personal injury law firm in Park City. Today, Summit Injury Law handles all types of injury and wrongful death cases throughout Utah, with a particular focus on skiing and snowboarding injuries. Summit Injury Law has become Utah’s premier ski and snowboard injury law firm, representing clients who have been harmed by the carelessness of other skiers, snowboarders, and ski resorts.
An avid skier since childhood, Mr. Kottler’s interest in ski law began when he started teaching his young daughter to ski. Realizing that not much had been done to promote ski safety in Utah beyond the basics, he developed a niche practice to help protect the rights of ski and snowboard accident victims and their families. Today, more than half of the firm’s clients are those injured at Utah’s major ski resorts in Park City and Salt Lake City.
